Arthur Irwin Hennessey

Arthur Hennessey was born in 1882 .  His father was a local fisherman.  His 1901 occupation was listed as “yachtsman.”  In 1905 he was working as a clerk in a shoe store.

He also did metal work within the Handcraft Shop.

He is thought to be responsible for the design of many of the decorated Marblehead pieces.   The signature HT is believed to represent the collaboration of Arthur Hennessey, the designer and Sarah Tutt, the decorator.

He married Margaret B. Hennessey.   Starting in 1919 Arthur Hennessey taught children in Marblehead model boat sailing - a role his wife assumed after his death.
