Jessie Luther -


She was a painter, weaver and potter.  She was from Providence, Rhode Island.

She had worked for two years at the Hull House Labor Museum in Chicago under the direction of Jane Adams.  Studied at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and in Paris.

Dr. Hall met her in 1903 at a health resort near Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire.

She worked out the details of the Marblehead center with Dr Hall. She was the first employed weaver at the Handcraft Workshop.   Initially she taught weaving, woodcarving, basket weaving, pottery and metalwork. 

She left Marblehead and moved to work at the Butler Hospital in Providence.  

She was hired away from Marblehead by Sir Wilfred Grenville to work in Labrador and Newfoundland.
