This original painting was apparently intended for a brochure advertising Marblehead Pottery.
It was painted by Margaret Oliver Hewlett, an early pioneer of graphic advertising art who had been a teacher at a Stroudsburg, PA college.
It is peculiar that the pottery pieces depicted do not really resemble Marblehead Pottery in glaze, shape nor decoration. Was it simply an exercise for a class?
The piece was purchased from a seller in Upstate NY on e-bay in 2007,
