CATALOGUE

The first Marblehead Pottery catalogue was issued in 1919, four years after Baggs purchased the pottery from Herbert Hall, MD in 1915. The original catalogue listed the price of each item under its picture. Undecorated pieces were each given a two or three digit Shape Number. Many intervening numbers were omitted, suggesting that additional shape numbers may have predated the catalogue but were no longer in production in 1919.

Decorated pieces were designated by the Shape number followed by letters A (-a) or B (-b). It is unclear (to me) why some decorated pieces were designated A(-a) and others as B(-b).

In 1920 and again in 1921 separate updated price list age was attached to the regular catalogue with a circular paper clip.  Prices in the original catalogue were inked over since the 1920 price list “superceded all former price-lists.”

A folded 6-page Supplementary Catalogue containing “later additions to the Marblehead line” was issued in 1924 along with another price list.
