Ancient Egypt Inspired Marblehead Pottery

British Architect Howard Carter rediscovered the entrance to King Tutankhamen’s tomb on November 4, 1922. On February 17, 1923 the inner tomb was unsealed. The discovery of the “wonderful things” within the tomb led to “Tut-mania,” a world-wide fascination with things Egyptian in fashion, music, jewelry, architecture and graphic design. Marblehead Pottery produced several items inspired by the contents of Tut’s tomb. Neither Sarah Tutt, Benjamin Tutt, nor Hannah Tutt were related to King Tutankhamen

King Tut Perfume Bottles

According to Everett Sanborn, a New York store sent an original ceramic bottle from Tut’s tomb to Marblehead Pottery. A mold was made from the original bottle and the original was returned. Mr. Sanborn recalled pressing 100 bottles from the original mold. After glazing, the bottles were sold at Tiffanys and other high end retailers.
