Seagull over M Mark

The impressed MP Ship Mark and the MARBLEHEAD POTTERY label were not used in the early (?prior to 1908) years of the pottery program. Rather, pieces were labeled by hand drawn marks with a seagull overlapping a capital letter “M.” Many of these pieces were covered by a irregular glaze, variously described as curdled, speckled, crackled or textured. Examples are demonstrated below.

Other early pieces were decorated. Some early pieces below were signed by Arthur Baggs. One of these early pieces with the seagull over the M was signed by both Arthur Baggs and Sarah Tutt.
